AI, data and profiling: the rules under the GDPR and the AI Act

On 13 October, Professor Finocchiaro will take part in the fifth seminar of the cycle "Artificial Intelligence and Law", organised in collaboration with the Department of Legal Studies of the University of Bologna and coordinated by Professor Ugo Ruffolo. On 8 October, Professor Finocchiaro will take part in the conference organised by AGCOM, the Italian Communications Authority, at the Chamber of Deputies. The event is dedicated to the relationship between the Constitution, artificial intelligence and the power of digital platforms. In her speech, the Professor will focus on the role of information and data as resources of economic value and as a condition for the exercise of fundamental freedoms.
Electronic Identification and Trust Services

Online identification and the security of electronic transactions have become a central issue for the European digital single market. The eIDAS 2 Regulation addresses this area by introducing the European Digital Identity Wallet and broadening the framework of trust services, with a view to strengthening interoperability and mutual recognition among Member States. On 24 September, at the Assonime offices in Rome, Professor Finocchiaro and Professor Delfini will present the volume they edited, "Identificazione elettronica e servizi fiduciari per le transazioni elettroniche nel mercato interno", taking stock of a regulatory framework still in the course of implementation.
Justice and High-Risk AI Systems

When an artificial intelligence system suggests case law or summarises legal documents, is it merely assisting the legal professional, or is it shaping their judgment? This is one of the key questions addressed in “Giustizia e High-Risk AI Systems”, the book by Mariano Sciacca, which will be presented on 16 September in the Sala delle Armi of Palazzo Malvezzi, Bologna. The work offers a systematic analysis of the relationship between AI and the administration of justice: from the ancillary uses of AI systems to the proposal of augmented intelligence, understood as enhancing, rather than replacing, the capabilities of legal professionals.
